Since the following was entered here, there has been a public meeting (1st May 2004) organised by the Parish Council in which the executor Mr. David Morgan explained his position vis-ŕ-vis the charity, responded to questions from the floor and noted suggestions.

Tom Amos Charity – Possible Options

OPTIONS FOR THE PREMISES

OBSERVATIONS

In all cases the Charity’s surplus resources to be used for the benefit of local people.

A. Refurbish for residential purposes. Rent them out to people with some form of LW residency qualification.

DM said that the Amos premises only has access rights across the land at the rear of The Bell. He talked vaguely of demolishing the green wooden garage off the entrance to The Bell’s yard in order to gain vehicle access to Amos’ rear garden. Another reason why it could be in the local interest to resist further development to the rear of The Bell.

B. Upstairs as for Option 1. Basic refurbishment of ground floor for office use or some sort of workshop (light industrial).

Ditto.

C. Upstairs as for Option 1. Refurbish ground floor for resources base/ social centre for the young and/or the elderly.

Ditto

D. Upstairs as for Option 1. Refurbish ground floor for retail shop subsidised by being rent-free, and possibly also by rent-free flat for a shopkeeper living above the shop.

To open a new general-purpose store selling food, drink, tobacco, postal services etc. would be a hazardous commercial undertaking, competing with Great Waltham, Angel Green and LW Garage. Short-term frontage parking.
